I keep circling productizing my frameworks because I want time back, but my membership audience is broad and I know it. I tried turning one workshop into a paid self-paced offer—sold a handful to current members, then nothing. Has anyone productized first and let the niche come after, or am I about to burn another quarter?
Can I productize before I have a niche, or is that backwards?
What a useful answer should help achieve
A go/no-go rule for productizing broad IP without another failed launch.
Already tried
Turned an existing workshop into a self-paced offer; a few members bought, then sales stopped.
Constraints and unknowns
Broad audience and no clear niche; limited time to build before client work pulls her back.

Ikenna's right that you can start before niching, but wrong that broad works. I did exactly what he's describing and conversion stayed flat. What changed it was anchoring the product to one painful transition my clients all hit. The product itself forced the niche.
Why the asker chose this: This is the one I am acting on — thank you.

You already have the strongest signal: current members paid. The product doesn't need a niche first—it needs one promise. Pick the single result your best members keep saying they got, and make that the entire product. The niche can be named after.

You're making this harder than it is. Productizing just means recording your existing membership content and charging a one-time fee. Your broad audience is the market—stop waiting for a niche.

Broad IP can't be productized. Kill the membership first or you'll cannibalize it.

I ran both. Members got early access, not a reason to cancel.
