I've got a self-paced course for L&D teams and the one part clients actually finish and mention back to me is the assessment. I've been hand-marking every submission, and it's now eating the hours I need to productize the rest. I'm quoting a corporate academy for a standalone assessment add-on and I keep going quiet on the number. For anyone who's done this: separate line, bundled, or something else — and what would you do differently?
Standalone assessment pricing: I keep underpricing the part people actually finish
What a useful answer should help achieve
Walk away with a defensible way to price assessment that doesn't undercut the one part of the course that already works.
Already tried
Quoted a standalone add-on; hand-marked every submission so far.
Constraints and unknowns
Delivery hours are the bottleneck; can't take on more marking without sacrificing productization.

I tried per-assessment pricing for a design audit. It punished the serious buyers and created endless small invoices. Moved to one flat review included in the course, with a separate deep-dive. Revenue smoothed, admin dropped. My warning: I'm a solo, not an academy.
Why the asker chose this: This is the one I am acting on — thank you.

Just charge per submission. It prices itself and stops scope creep.

Separate line, always. Bundled reads as free and they won't block out time for it. I moved assessment out of the package after two clients ghosted the follow-up call. Churn dropped.

I don't have a clean answer, but following. We tried charging separately for a diagnostic last year and it didn't hold up for us. Clients treated it as optional and skipped it, so we folded it into the base price and completion improved. That's the opposite of what you're asking, but the one thing I'd repeat is that the line item changed the client's decision more than the content did.

I bundle the first assessment and charge for the certificate or a re-assessment. That shifts the conversation from paying for work to paying for the outcome. It worked for my course, but it may not translate if the academy needs line items for procurement.
